The DAPP Kindergarten was started as part of the Community Development activities in the DAPP Child Aid project in the 1990es. The Kindergarten was established in a simple hut in a safe environment at the DAPP Centre at Onambelela. It has provided young children an opportunity to learn through play, games, stories and guidance from their “pre-school teachers” for many years. It has served as a good initial training ground for those entering grade 1 at DAPP Private School.
It has adopted the POF program, Preschool Children of the Future, which promotes that the children use both their heads, hands, their full body and get lots of practical experiences during their Preschool years.
Between 60- 75 children divided into two groups make daily use of the DAPP Kindergarten.
The DAPP Kindergarten has also served as an inspiration for many newly established community preschools/kindergartens around the Omusati regions and as a training ground for preschool teachers, now called Educarers.
